Are you struggling with unruly hair? Do you spend hours detangling your hair? If yes, then there is a one-stop solution for all your hair problems - keratin hair treatment. With this revolutionary smoothing process, you don't have to worry about frizzy, dry or coarse hair. All you need is a good tool and a reliable barber and you're done! Read on to learn more about keratin hair treatment, see before and after pictures of how keratin straightening works, and basically get to know the keratin hair restoration procedure that can give you the hair you've always dreamed of.

WHAT IS KERATIN?

Keratin is a protein that makes up 90% of your hair. It is an important structural protein that protects your hair from damage. Amino acids contained in keratin create sulfur bridges that give the hair the necessary strength and elasticity. Deprive your hair of keratin and you will notice how the hair becomes dry and frizzy.

Due to external factors (such as pollution and harmful emissions into the atmosphere) and internal factors (such as an unhealthy lifestyle), the keratin in your hair is depleted. And then keratin hair treatment is simply necessary.

HOW DOES KERATIN HAIR STRAIGHTENING WORK?

It all starts with applying a keratin solution to your hair. Keratins seep into your hair follicles and are then sealed there with a flat iron. These keratins are a combination of amino acids that have all the necessary properties to strengthen hair. These amino acids create the bonds that define your hair type - straight, curly or wavy.

Imagine that your hair structure is like a ladder. As a rule, straight hair contains links that are structured like a normal straight staircase. But in curly hair, the structure is spiral (like a spiral staircase). In the procedure we describe today, keratins break these bonds in curly hair and transform them into straight hair.

HOW IS KERATIN HAIR STRAIGHTENING (TREATMENT) PERFORMED?

Keratin hair treatment can take 1 to 2 hours depending on hair type, length, porosity and thickness.

Before starting the procedure, wash your hair with a clarifying hair cleanser to remove any impurities and residues of cosmetics. Once your hair is clean and fresh, you should divide your hair into several sections. After that, the keratin solution is applied to the hair itself and left on the hair for about one hour. Then you need to "seal" your cuticles and fix the keratins in your hair with a flat iron.

This is a modern artificial way to saturate your hair with keratin. This process itself allows you to maintain the elasticity of the hair, as a result of which the hair becomes shiny, silky, rejuvenated and healthy.

But that's not all! Keratin hair treatment actually has many more benefits to give you the hair of your dreams. See the next section to find out which.

It appears that a keratin hair treatment can solve most of your hair problems. But, before you decide on this procedure, you must know and follow some recommendations in order to achieve a safe and effective result.

PREPARATION FOR KERATIN HAIR RECOVERY

  • Do a little research on your hair type and find the keratin treatment that suits your hair type, texture and length.

  • Moisturize your hair well a week before treatment. This will hydrate your curls and prevent the damage that flat irons can cause to dehydrated hair during treatment.

  • Avoid using "heavy" shampoos or oils two days before treatment.

  • Go to an initial consultation with your hairdresser to learn more about the precautions you should take.

Now that you know all the recommendations for pre-preparing your hair for the keratin hair restoration procedure, let's move on directly to the keratin hair treatment itself. People often confuse this procedure with Brazilian hair straightening, but there are a few key differences between the two which are discussed in the next section.

BRAZILIAN HAIR STRAIGHTENING VS KERATIN STRAIGHTENING

The Brazilian Hair Straightening Treatment is also known as Brazilian Blowout, Brazilian Keratin Treatment, BKT and Keratin Treatment. While there is not a very big difference between a keratin treatment and a Brazilian hair straightening, the keratin treatment is longer lasting than the latter.

Brazilian hair straightening is a semi-permanent method that uses virtually the same ingredients and application process as the keratin treatment. Both treatments use formaldehyde, so it's important to ask your hairdresser about the quality and brand of formulations before proceeding with the treatment.

Also, Brazilian hair straightening formulations emit slightly more formaldehyde when heated than modern keratin hair restoration formulations. Therefore, Brazilian hair straightening, for example in the countries of the European Union, is prohibited.

The chemicals involved in Brazilian straightening do not strip away the natural texture of your hair as much as a keratin treatment. In the case of Brazilian hair straightening, the results are immediate as the chemical solution is washed off the same day. On the other hand, the waiting time for classic keratin hair restoration is 72 hours.

Keratin treatment deeply conditions and straightens your hair, permanently changing the hair structure. Brazilian straightening is mainly aimed at eliminating frizz and straightening curls with an effect that lasts up to 3 months.

However, Brazilian hair straightening is not the only keratin treatment option. There are many different types of keratin treatment that you can choose from. We'll give you three more options!

KERATIN HAIR STRAIGHTENING OPTIONS

1. Cezanne Products

It doesn't use as much formaldehyde as a keratin treatment and just smoothes your tresses without breaking the disulfide bonds in the hair cuticle. Keratin treatment is an easy way to quickly get smooth and manageable straight hair. However, you must take some precautions after treatment to get long term results. Check them out in the next section.

HOW TO CARE FOR HAIR AFTER KERATIN RECOVERY

A few years ago, when you did a keratin hair straightening, you had to keep your hair dry for three days after the procedure. But with a new range of products, more often than not, you only have to wait 30 minutes. However, some brands require special care to allow the treatment to be as effective as possible. Here are a few guidelines and tips to follow after a keratin treatment to ensure the best results:

  • Do not wash your hair for at least three days after the procedure.

  • Buy a good dry shampoo to avoid wetting your hair.

  • Do not tie your hair or hide it behind your ears for 48 hours, as this can cause unsightly dents in your straight hair.

  • Avoid using heat styling products as they can break the disulfide bonds in your newly treated hair.

  • Use a sulfate-free shampoo. This will increase the duration of keratin straightening.

Now comes the most important question - how much does keratin hair straightening cost? Read on to find out!

KERATIN HAIR STRAIGHTENING - PRICE

The cost of a keratin treatment depends on the salon and the products used for the treatment. The price range is usually between 2,000 and 8,000 rubles ($30 - $120) in Russia. A number of factors, such as the length of your hair, the length of the treatment, and the brand, all affect the final cost. You can also purchase quality homemade keratin kits that cost between $30 and $70.

SIDE EFFECTS OF HAIR TREATMENT WITH KERATIN

Are there possible risks associated with keratin treatment? It's pretty debatable. Some say they haven't experienced any problems with it, while others avoid doing the process again due to its high chemical content. However, there are a few side effects to watch out for:

  • The excess heat generated by the iron can damage the hair cuticle.

  • If you have dyed hair, there is a chance of discoloration over time.

  • Some keratin preparations claim to be free of formaldehyde, which may not always be true. Therefore, seek the opinion of an expert to understand whether the formaldehyde content of this product is safe for your hair type or not.
