The Dutch braid, also known as reverse braid or (sometimes) bias braid, is one of the most unique ways to style your hair. Although weaving braids for long hair, in particular the Dutch braid, can be mastered fairly quickly, outwardly it looks very impressive and not so simple.

It uses the same technique that you may have already mastered when weaving a French braid. The only difference here is that instead of crossing over the top of the middle section, you will have to cross it from below, thus making a Dutch braid. The braid, it turns out, lies, as it were, above the hair. It is for this reason that the Dutch braid is sometimes also called the reverse braid.

Here's what you might need for this:

  • Hairpins

  • Hair bands

- STEP 1

This braid can be done on dry or wet hair, at your discretion. Also, both straight and curly hair are suitable for this braid.

Start by brushing your hair with a soft hairbrush to straighten your hair and remove any tangles. Apply some hair mousse to the middle of your hair (not the roots). This product will add extra volume to your hair and a shiny "freshly washed" look. This will be better for the hair, unlike the gel, which gives the hair the bounce and brittle look it doesn't want at the moment.

If you have thin or brittle hair, then mousse will probably be a must-have product for you, as it instantly adds volume to your hair.

This braid can be done from the side, it can be done right behind, it can be done in a circle, it all depends on your desire. We will demonstrate the "side" option.

Take a section of hair from the side.

- STEP 2

Now, combing the first, large strand, and making sure that there are no tangles in it, you should divide it into three parts. Make sure that the length and width of each small strand is the same. Secure each strand with your fingers.

- STEP 3

Now, start braiding, BUT(!) instead of crossing over the middle strand, you will have to cross under the middle strand. So to speak, reverse weaving.

- STEP 4

After you have braided each strand twice under the middle strand, take another extra strand from the side and add it to one of your strands and pass it under the middle strand again, weaving in the extra strand.

- STEP 5

Continue repeating the above step and walk diagonally to the other side of the head.

- STEP 6

Continue weaving until you reach the end. Secure your braid with an elastic band to match your hair color and finish off your hairstyle with a coat of hairspray. That's it!

The Dutch braid looks best on wavy long and medium hair. But do not worry if you have thin and straight hair. You can always curl your hair at home. You can use a curling iron to curl your hair, or you can curl it naturally.

Naturally, one of the easiest ways to get curly hair is to use a donut-shaped hair roller. How to do it beautifully and correctly is perfectly described HERE . Leave your hair in this position overnight, and the next morning, when you remove the roller, you will find that your straight hair has turned into beautiful curls.

Simple Tips

  • You can decorate your weaving by using thread with pearls or shiny beads when weaving. This will give her a more feminine look.

  • You can also weave a hair band and even weave natural flowers into it if you want to make your hairstyle look more unusual and girlish.
