Did you know that in 450 B.C. Hippocrates used apple cider vinegar to heal wounds? Amazing, right?

Apple cider vinegar has been used by humans for medicinal purposes throughout history. Yes, this substance has a long history of cosmetic use. The Romans used apple cider vinegar as a facial tonic and Cleopatra used it to cleanse her skin - if you turn the pages of history, you'll be surprised to find how often people preferred to use apple cider vinegar because of its wonderful restorative properties.

Now it's time for us to start using this amazing ingredient (if you haven't already). There is a super easy way to incorporate apple cider vinegar into your skin care routine. Keep reading to find out more about it.

APPLE VINEGAR BENEFITS FOR SKIN

Here are a few scientifically proven health benefits of apple cider vinegar:

1. Apple Cider Vinegar Has Antimicrobial Properties

Apple cider vinegar is very effective in inhibiting the growth of many strains of bacteria. It is an extremely powerful antimicrobial drug. A study has shown that it is particularly effective against bacteria such as E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus (bacteria that cause acne). The study concluded that apple cider vinegar could be used for therapeutic treatments (2).

2. Apple cider vinegar can get rid of acne

Apple cider vinegar contains citric acid, succinic acid and lactic acid. All of these compounds may prevent the growth of propionibacterium acne (P. acnes), the bacteria responsible for acne (3), (4). In addition, it also inhibits the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, which automatically keeps your skin healthy and free from pimples and blackheads.

3. Has antifungal properties

Apple cider vinegar is particularly effective in preventing the growth of Candida species, especially against the diploid fungus (Candida albicans) (5). This fungus is responsible for dry skin, atopic dermatitis and eczema. These conditions usually occur when your skin's protective barrier is compromised, making it vulnerable to fungus. Apple cider vinegar not only prevents infection but also helps to stabilize the pH balance of your skin.

The easiest way to use apple cider vinegar on your face is to make a daily facial toner out of it. This is a simple and convenient recipe that you can easily make at home.

HOW TO MAKE APPLE VINEGAR FACE TONIC: STEP BY STEP

Before making an apple cider vinegar facial toner at home, you need to think about the characteristics of your skin. Therefore, before using any homemade recipe, it is important to know what proportions and what ingredients to use according to the needs of your particular skin.

You can follow the proportions below to prepare your face toner:

  • 1:4 ratio (ideal for sensitive skin)

Use one part apple cider vinegar and four parts distilled water (or hydrosol). If you are using a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, dilute it with four tablespoons of distilled water. This proportion will allow you to make an extremely soft and gentle tonic for sensitive skin.

  • 1:3 ratio (ideal for normal to dry skin)

Use one part apple cider vinegar and three parts distilled water (or hydrosol).

  • 1:1 ratio (ideal for oily skin)

Use one part apple cider vinegar and one part distilled water (or hydrosol). Follow this ratio if you use essential oils in your facial toner.

If this is your first time using apple cider vinegar on your skin, start with the milder, first option, and once your skin gets used to it, you can try other proportions. Stick to your routine and it will make your skin happy.

Let's see how to make apple cider vinegar facial toner at home.

What you will need:

  • Apple vinegar

  • Distilled water

  • Optional Ingredient - Hydrosol (1 teaspoon per glass of tonic)

  • Optional ingredient - Essential oils (2-3 drops per glass of tonic)

Mode of application:

  • Mix apple cider vinegar with distilled water (according to the proportions mentioned above).

  • If you are adding a hydrosol, add it according to the indicated proportions.

  • Add essential oil.

  • Mix well and pour the mixture into a spray bottle.

  • Store the tonic in the refrigerator.

How to use:

  • Take a cotton pad and spray some tonic on it.

  • Apply toner to your face with gentle strokes. Avoid the area around the eyes.

  • Do not wet the skin and do not rinse off the toner.

  • You can also apply the toner directly on your face and then spread it evenly over the skin with a cotton pad (but the first option is better).

  • Apply toner several times, especially after washing your face.

There are a few important things YOU SHOULD KNOW before preparing and using apple cider vinegar facial toner:

  • It's best to use organic apple cider vinegar, unrefined, unpasteurized, and unfiltered. The pulp particles in vinegar are nothing more than enzymes, proteins, and skin-friendly bacteria that give the vinegar its cloudy appearance. But in principle, even if you do not have such vinegar, then you can use ordinary natural purified apple cider vinegar.

  • Apple cider vinegar doesn't have a very pleasant smell. If you are using apple cider vinegar for the first time, the smell may be especially strong. After you put it on the skin, it smells a little 😃, but then the smell disappears, literally after a few minutes.

  • Avoid using apple cider vinegar on damaged skin. If you have scratches, wounds, and open lesions on your skin, avoid using apple cider vinegar. It may sting a little when treating acne, blackheads, open pores, and dry skin. But don't worry, it's normal. This means that it fights infection and bacteria and cleanses your skin.

  • If you are using apple cider vinegar for the first time, remember to always dilute it before use. Start with a milder version and then increase the amount of apple cider vinegar according to your skin's needs.

Apple cider vinegar may be your key to healthy, glowing skin, and not just a kitchen ingredient. So if a bottle of apple cider vinegar is gathering dust in your kitchen cabinet, take it out today and make this easy-to-use and extremely convenient facial toner.
