Buttermilk is the acidic liquid left over from the production of butter from cow's milk. Remember I told you at the beginning of this article that superficial chemical peels use alpha hydroxy acids? Now, the lactic acid found in buttermilk is also a type of alpha hydroxy acid.

It helps to remove dead cells from the skin of the face and lighten age spots. So, instead of spending tons of money on a dermatologist to get a professional dry cleaning to remove your blemishes, you can just spend quite a bit of money on a bottle of buttermilk to get the same results.

Method number 1 :

Face Mask - Raw Buttermilk

The easiest and cheapest way to use buttermilk is to use it as is, without adding anything to it.

What you will need:

  • Buttermilk

  • cotton pads

Mode of application:

  • Pour some buttermilk into a small bowl.

  • Using a cotton pad, apply buttermilk directly to the blemishes.

  • Wash it off with clean water after 20 minutes.

How often?

Daily.

Method number 2 :

Face Mask - Buttermilk and Tomato Juice

Both buttermilk and tomato both have a whitening effect that can give faster results in your quest for an anti-pigmentation product.

What you will need:

  • 4 teaspoons buttermilk

  • 2 teaspoons tomato juice

Mode of application:

  • In a clean bowl, add the buttermilk and tomato juice and mix thoroughly.

  • Apply the mixture on your face and leave for half an hour.

  • Wash off with clean water.

How often?

Daily.

!!! WARNING: Do not use any of the above buttermilk home remedies around and under the eyes as the skin there is very sensitive and the lactic acid in buttermilk can be irritating.

Tips: You can use milk or yogurt instead of buttermilk if you're having a hard time finding it, as they also contain lactic acid.
